| I've decided that it's time for a real blog and I just set one up at wordpress.com. You can check it out here: http://becomingbethany.wordpress.com/
I will still be on xanga occasionally but anything to do with writing, storytelling, or philosophy will be on there.
Come visit me! | | |
| 1) It is a feast day in honor of St. Valentine. Who doesn’t like feasts? And St. Valentine was definitely a Christian worth honoring. Though there are many stories about St. Valentine, all of them agree that he stood strong in his faith even while undergoing the Roman persecution. My personal favorite legend about St. Valentine is that he wrote letters about the Love of God to fellow believers from his prison cell. How amazing that he could focus on the Love of God even while suffering?!
2) I think love is worth celebrating. Of course there are many different kinds of love but I think all of them are essential to a life well-lived. Just because most people are focusing on Eros (romantic love) at Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean that that is the only kind of love worth celebrating! What about Phillia (friendship)? Or Storge (natural affection, like a parent to a child)? Or most importantly perhaps, Agape, the kind of love that God shows to us and we are called to show to one another?
3) It’s a great holiday to tell friends and family how much you appreciate them. So many holidays are full of busy celebrations that the real human interaction can get lost. Here is a holiday focused on loved ones!
4) Holidays make people happy. I like seeing happy people.
5) I like chocolate. Well, I do.

| I think I forgot to say, "I'm in Rome." I have been here for five days and I am enjoying the city immensely!

| O God Who by a star guided the wisemen to the worship of your Son we pray you lead to yourself the wise and great of every land that unto you every knee may bow, and every thought be brought into captivity Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
